malaysia boleh....or so it seems

malaysia loses to singapore...but not without a fight. it was pretty much expected but i was hoping that the malaysian team would pleasantly surprise me with an upset. oh well...the penalty shoot out was pretty entertaining and filled with suspense. malaysia still boleh...they had their moments....just not the final one.

back in business

finally got a new router...previous one was struck by lightning. now i don't have to plant my ass at starbucks to work.

i've lost my pencils

my cute and innocent 7 year old half brother was the victim of "mean girls". apparently he was slapped by a girl 2 days in a row...and on the 3rd day...she took his pencils. *GASP* she left him pencil-less...THE HORROR! his first 2 weeks in primary school and he's already been terrorized....by a GIRL.

somehow my protective instincts just kicked in and i feel the need to drive hundreds of miles to penang to teach this bully a lesson. then again...he should learn to stand up for himself. maybe i should tell him the story about how i punched a girl on my first day of primary school because she kept kicking my chair. maybe that would give him some motivation...some moral support. i'm soooo not cut out to be a mother. i'll make a great big sister though :)

by the way...my four kids born out of wed lock (they have to be in order for me to use my own sur name) will be named...

- droo ling

can't think of anymore right now but i'm sure there's tonnes i can use. so to my future-out-of-wed-lock-unborn children....i'm so sorry...you will have a demented mother.

my new year so far....

so 2 weeks into the new year and nothing much has changed on my end. i have been reading a whole lot more. salon.com is still as good as i remembered it. i've quit hsx.com....left with 2.8 million. it would've been more if indiana jones 4 just halted productions. i do feel unproductive...sorta like a bum. thinking of subscribing to a publication. off the edge...readers digest...time magazine?

Oscar nominees should be coming out soon. the new year is always a season for film and tv. 24 is set to premier today. the L word season 4 started last week. prison break is on a break and so is heroes but they'll be returning at the end of the month. not really a Lost fan so no real loss (no pun intended) that they're on hold till next month. the one i miss the most is Gilmore Girls. i've always loved the show. witty dialogue...twilight zone like town...fun characters. golden globes is on this week and its always a prelude to the oscars. you'll pretty much know who'll be nominated and who'll be walking home with that gold thing after the golden globes. i'm so disappointed that the prestige is not being recognized for anything. it is by far one of the best movies of this century....but that's just my opinion. ask anyone and they'll say that my taste in movies and music is a tad strange.

this is a random picture from sitiawan. this is the Ling ancestral home. its where my grandparents lived. not very tastefully designed but i guess for historical purposes its been left as is...with minor paint jobs being done occasionally. it's pretty surreal...to visit my hometown and learn about my grandparents and greatgrandparents and to see where they lived. i've never met them...i've only seen pictures. it was good that i had the opportunity to find out the story behind those pictures. but that was the only plus point about the reunion. i still don't like being judged based on the clothes i wear...my job...my interest and more importantly...my faith.

beckham earns more in one hour than many people do in a year. it's ridiculous. just staring at the back page of today's star newspaper was disturbing. USD250 million for 5 years doesn't sound that much. heck... Men In Black made 250 million in the box office. harry potter prisoner of azkhaban came close to 250 million USD. but wait...convert it to ringgit...its over 875 million. now break that down to 5 years and it's like 175 million a year....and 14 million a month...and 480k a day....and 20k an hour...330 a minute. ridiculous numbers.

has it really been that long?

i recently got into a conversation with a friend and he asked me..."hasn't it been awhile since you were last attached?". hrm....i'm not very good at counting backwards...but just to humour him i did...2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002. has it really been that long? indeed it has.

people are complaining about being single for 2...3...years and here i am....celibate for 5 years. ok...maybe not celibate...just single. like i always said....people are either single by choice...or single because they have no choice. which are you?

define irony

at the quiz yesterday...we had a topic called 'favourite hobby' and it was about sex. so one of the questions asked us to state the penalty for having oral sex in singapore. prior to that i had no idea that having oral sex in singapore was illegal. so being the information whore i am...i googled it. under section 377 of the Singaporean Penal Code:

From legal precedent in both India and Singapore, "carnal intercourse against the order of nature" between individuals (of all sexes - the law being non-gender specific with its use of the word "whoever") has been interpreted to include anal sex and, often after much courtroom deliberation, oral sex as well; namely any form of sexual intercourse which does not have the potential for procreation.

However, recent Singaporean cases have established that heterosexual fellatio is exempted if indulged in as foreplay which eventually leads to coitus. The Singaporean margin note further explains that mere penetration of the penis into the anus or mouth even without orgasm would constitute the offence. The law applies regardless of the act being consensual between both parties and done in private.

so basically i can't have oral sex unless i'm planning to have babies? ok...maybe i'm exaggerating but isn't this just weird. a country that legalizes prostitution illegalizes oral sex. and the whole "any form of sexual intercourse which does not have the potential for procreation" is a bit sketchy to me. having sex with a condom and birth control severely reduces the potential for procreation. ok...so maybe i'm getting ahead of myself...but seriously?

and the best part is....the maximum sentence on this is LIFE IN PRISON.

Prostitution is legal. Operating a brothel and soliciting in public are technically illegal, but officially tolerated in certain areas called designated red-light areas (DRAs). Working women have to carry a "yellow card" that proves that they are registered and have recently undergone their bi-weekly health check. Working conditions in the brothels are good: some even provide voluntary benefits to keep the prostitutes working there. Prostitutes don't work out of economic necessity (except the foreigners) since there's no poverty and nearly full employment in Singapore. Singapore's Court of Appeal ruled in 2/97 that consensual oral sex is a criminal offense unless it is part of foreplay leading to proper intercourse.

The age of consent: 16.

Finding prostitutes: There are 6 red-light districts with a total of about 400 brothels, each employing 10-20 registered prostitutes. I list the names with their price ranges: Geylang (S$50-S$120), Flanders Square (S$30), Keong Siak Street (S$15-S$30), Desker Road (S$10-S$12), Tanjong Pagar area (S$10-S$12). In addition, there are brothels outside of the DRAs (illegal), massage parlors offering full service (illegal), escort services (legal) and private call girls (legal).

i've been sick all week and with sickness comes dvds. i've been making like a vegetable in front of tv and being completely unproductive for awhile now. i've seen so many movies...most of which aren't noteworthy. movie reviews to come later....

i guess its only polite to wish everyone a happy new year. i'm not exactly a fan of the new years. it means that i have to start writing dates as 2007...and it usually takes me 2 months to get used to it. it would also mean that i have to renew a whole bunch of cards in my wallet.

anyway...the Ling family reunion is finally over. i know this is long overdue but it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. don't get me wrong....we were being scrutinized and judged. there were a lot of uncomfortable and obligatory conversations. but at least everyone was decent enough to keep their opinions to themselves.

swiss garden damai laut was a pleasant surprise too. i was expecting a lesser resort with old fashion amenities but it wasn't half bad at all. there's lotsa activities to participate in and its a nice place to just sit back and relax. anyway...random picture below is a picture of a small little house that i saw on the way to the resort. such a sad little thing. it's a show house but its been abandoned. i guess no one is really interested in purchasing property in the middle of nowhere. plus....it's really small. as you can see from the picture...the house is as wide as a door and a window.
